Greiz / Nuremberg, February 9, 2026 – The Textile Research Institute Thüringen-Vogtland e.V. (TITV Greiz) will be exhibiting at this year's international trade fair Enforce Tac. Visitors will find the research institute in Hall 6, at the Thuringian joint stand 215. The focus of the trade fair presentation will be on a novel, textile-based blood sensor developed specifically for use in security-critical and extreme medical situations.

The sensor presented is the result of a collaboration with
- Autoflug GmbH, a globally recognized supplier and service partner for the international aviation industry and defense technology,
- the German Armed Forces Institute for Materials and Materials Science (WIWeB)
- and the German Armed Forces Hospital.
How it works: Underwear alerts emergency services in case of blood loss
The sensor enables reliable differentiation between bodily fluids and the detection of blood loss directly through sensor elements integrated into textiles. It is based on a multipotential sensor operating on the principle of an “electronic tongue” using chemically modified conductive yarns. These yarns are woven directly into the textile structure and connected to the evaluation electronics without soldering.

The goal of the development is to provide emergency responders with rapid and reliable information on blood loss and injury severity during initial treatment — for example in accidents, disaster response situations, or military operations. Especially in chaotic or dangerous environments, the system supports prioritization of casualties and more efficient coordination of rescue measures. Sensor data can be transmitted wirelessly via secure communication channels to a command center or body area network, allowing assessment of the situation even from a safe distance.
Both the sensor and the evaluation electronics are designed for integration into underwear and operate continuously. When blood loss is detected, an automatic alarm is triggered. Thanks to its textile-based design, the system is lightweight, flexible, and suitable for long-term wear.

While TITV Greiz will present the textile sensor technology at Booth 215 in Hall 6, project partner Autoflug GmbH will demonstrate the complete system nearby at Booth 312. With its presence at Enforce Tac 2026, TITV Greiz highlights its expertise in functionalized textiles for security-related applications and invites trade visitors to learn more about the blood sensor and other current research projects on site.
