Managing Director Dr Fabian Schreiber with interested guests during a tour of the institute

On 17 September, the Textile Research Institute Thüringen-Vogtland e. V. (TITV Greiz) opened its doors to industry professionals and interested guests. In addition to the annual ‘Innovation Day’, which is organised specifically for customers and research partners, this year also saw the return of the ‘Open Day’, to which all interested parties were invited.

Around 170 visitors took the opportunity to get to know the institute better: guided tours of research and laboratory facilities, exciting presentations on current projects and interactive puzzles ensured a varied programme.

Impulses on wearables, smart textile manufacturing processes and mobility
ithin the thematic block ‘Technologies for wearables and smart medical textiles’, Dr Andrea Preuß, Dr Yvonne Zimmermann and Kay Ullrich presented their developments for flexible, biocompatible accumulator systems for wearable applications (stretchable electronic circuits and a sensor-active ankle orthosis with innovative feedback technology).

Under the heading ‘Efficient Manufacturing Processes for Smart Textiles,’ Samuel Bollmann presented new approaches to the highly automated integration of electronic components into textiles. Carolin Gierke reported on research aimed at minimising wear and tear during the processing of conductive threads. Yashas Shivakumar's presentation on powder coating textiles using laser fixation was also particularly impressive.
In the afternoon, the focus was on ‘Technologies for the Mobility Industry,’ with a focus on textile heating systems for e-mobility (Dr. Andreas Neudeck) and an adaptive tyre for improving driving safety and comfort.
A particular highlight was the network panel ‘Textile Future’. Moderator Isabelle Grimm discussed key cross-industry topics of the future with Dr Thomas Mäder (Deep Breath UG), Dr Yvette Dietzel (Verlag TEXTILplus AG), Carsten Hänsel (Hanfhütte.com) and Corbin Horn (Thaevo GmbH). The focus was on sustainability, functional enhancements to textiles and the opportunities arising from the networking of different industries.
